Due to the worldwide shortage of semiconductors, JR East\'s Suica cards (with a penguin design on the front) were discontinued for the time being on June 8, 2012. If you are planning to travel to Japan, we recommend that you purchase one. Because you cannot buy them at the station.

Most Japanese people use it when they take the train.
Suica is a prepaid electronic money card for transportation and shopping. You no longer need to buy a ticket from a vending machine; simply touch Suica to the ticket gate and the fare will be automatically deducted from Suica. Suica can be used for JR East trains as well as subways and buses; see the Suica Map for the transportation systems that can be used with Suica.
Suica can also be used for electronic payments. Buy soft drinks and coffee from vending machines or on trains. Even when buying a newspaper at a station kiosk, save yourself the trouble of looking for coins; Suica makes traveling in Japan much more enjoyable.

Get on a train
If you are planning to travel to Japan, we recommend that you purchase the card in advance.
Simply hold your Suica over the reader at the ticket gate. There is no need to buy a ticket from an automatic ticket vending machine.
The fare is automatically calculated at the station where you get off the train.
When you get off the train, the fare is calculated at that station. However, if your balance is insufficient, you will need to add more money to your Suica.

This card is in fresh condition, so the remaining balance is zero yen. Please charge it at the station before use. If you no longer need it, return it to a Suica-managed station, and you will receive a refund of 500 yen deposit.
