It has not been cleaned, is completely intact, not torn anywhere, has complete screened logo graphic on the front, is not dry or brittle, with no major issues at all.
The only identifying marks on this piece is the screened logo on the front reading HERALD AMERICAN. This Chicago newspaper started out in 1900 as Hearst's Chicago American, and over the years changed names many different times, where from 1939 to 1953 it was known as the Herald American, dating this apron to somewhere in this period.
