This is a pair of vintage, hand-painted porcelain Japanese Kutani Foo Dog statues. They are 7.5 inches tall and were purchased from Japan around 1970 when my father was serving in Vietnam. The Foo Dogs are a traditional Japanese symbol of protection and are often displayed in pairs. These statues are a unique and collectible piece of Japanese culture and craftsmanship. These were purchased from the PACEX military catalog by my father sometime during his Vietnam deployment in 1968-1970. That would make them about 50 years old. Each approximately 7.5" tall and 7" wide. Each weighs approximately 2#. Both in excellent condition. Traditional Kutani elaborate gold on red colors. Sold as pair. Thank you for looking.
