Description

Rare and highly collectible original Civil War-era newspaper: the Boston Daily Advertiser dated Monday Morning, April 4, 1864, featuring historically important reporting tied to The Battle of Gettysburg.

This issue contains a prominent article regarding:

“The Battle of Gettysburg – Interesting Statement by Gen. Meade”

The paper discusses General George G. Meade’s report concerning the conduct of the Battle of Gettysburg, one of the most important and studied battles of the American Civil War. Gettysburg-related newspapers are among the most sought-after Civil War publications due to the historical significance and collector demand surrounding the battle.

Additional period content includes:

• Civil War military reporting

• Telegraph dispatches from around the country

• Reports from New Orleans and Mexico

• Period financial, theater, and illustrated advertisements

• Social and historical content from 1864 America

Unlike many surviving examples that have been separated, trimmed, or damaged over time, this issue presents extremely well for display and appears to remain substantially complete (approximately 4 pages).

The newspaper has been professionally preserved/display-mounted by a previous owner in protective plastic on a 23” x 16” backing board, giving it excellent wall-display appeal. It can be removed if preferred, though a new preservation/display setup would likely be required afterward.

A fantastic piece for:

• Civil War collectors

• Gettysburg enthusiasts

• Military history collectors

• Museum-style displays

• Americana & historical ephemera collections

Original Gettysburg-related newspapers are becoming increasingly difficult to find in attractive display condition.
