An original handwritten receipt dated September 5, 1833, place of issue reading Simington. The document states an amount due to the estate of [D./R.] Simington, signed by Elias B. Hicks. The amount is noted as 43/100 dollars current with a total of $5.73 indicated at lower left.
The verso bears a docket endorsement reading "Elias B. Hicks / June b. Dear $5.00 / Bad" along with a column of figures, suggesting the debt was ultimately written off or disputed.
Folded document in good antique condition with toning consistent with age. Measures approximately 7" x 2.5" unfolded. A fine example of early American estate administration paperwork from the Jacksonian era.
