A striking, rustic nativity scene with the kind of presence you don’t often come across. The stable, figures, manger, and tall star are sculpted in deep relief, with rough, woodlike texture and a wonderfully weathered finish. Its primitive folk art character gives it the feeling of an old devotional piece that has lived a long life.
The surface appears to be plaster over an unknown inner construction. It’s surprisingly heavy, though hollow inside. There is visible chipping and wear, and the piece spent many years outdoors. I have left it just as found—no cleaning or restoration—so the aged surface and imperfections remain part of its appeal. Please look through the photos closely; they show the finish and condition.
