Original Russian / Soviet Émigré Family Archive – 1920s–1950s

Offered is a fascinating group of original historical documents relating to a Russian/Soviet family and their life in Russia and later in the United States. The lot contains documents in both Russian/Cyrillic and English, with numerous handwritten entries, official stamps, seals and signatures.

The material spans approximately the late 1920s through the postwar/1950s period and provides an unusually interesting documentary trail from Soviet Russia to the Russian émigré community in America.

Among the documents visible in the lot are a 1929 Soviet school/student record, Russian civil/educational paperwork, documents bearing official Soviet stamps and handwritten information, a large Orthodox Church record/certificate, and American records.

Of particular interest is an ornate United States naturalization/citizenship certificate with photograph, as well as a City of Marlborough, Massachusetts Copy of Marriage Record. The marriage document contains extensive handwritten genealogical information including names, ages, residences, occupations, birthplaces and parents.

Also included are several smaller Russian documents/certificates with official stamps and signatures, together with their associated folded papers/enclosures.

This is being offered as one intact archive exactly as found. I have not attempted to separate the documents because their value and historical interest are enhanced by keeping the related material together.

An excellent research lot for collectors of Russian émigré history, Soviet documents, Russian Orthodox Church history, immigration and naturalization material, genealogy, or early 20th-century ephemera.

All documents shown are included and are sold together as one lot.

📚 Provenance: From the Nicholas Petroff Archive

This group of original documents was acquired as part of the Nicholas A. Petroff Archive, a substantial personal collection of Russian émigré, family, religious, historical, and professional material assembled and preserved by Petroff.

The larger archive contains original photographs, family papers, Russian and Soviet documents, Russian Orthodox Church material, correspondence, publications, and later records associated with Petroff's professional career and research interests. Other material from the same archive documents his association with Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty and his extensive interest in Russia, the Soviet Union, Russian émigré history, and the Russian Orthodox community.

This particular lot was found together within the Nicholas Petroff Archive and is being kept intact as found. The combination of Russian/Soviet records, Orthodox Church material, American marriage and naturalization records, handwritten entries, signatures, official stamps and seals provides an unusual documentary record of the Russian émigré experience across several decades.

Will ship safely as always.
