Up for sale is a complete, original 2-volume set of the highly collectible 1936 Olympia Cigarette Card Albums (Die Olympischen Spiele 1936), published by the Cigaretten-Bilderdienst Altona-Bahrenfeld. These historical souvenir volumes are complete with all original photo cards meticulously pasted into their designated spaces.
This set serves as an incredible photographic record of both the Winter and Summer Games of 1936. Notably, Volume 2 features extensive, legendary coverage of track and field icon Jesse Owens, including his historic sprint and long jump triumphs (such as the famous Card #32 on page 18, Card #46 on page 25 alongside Mack Robinson, and extensive textual profiles). Volume 1 features comprehensive coverage of the winter bobsledding, skiing, and ice hockey events at Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
Condition Details (Please Read Carefully):
This set is offered in as-is, vintage condition with clear structural wear, making it a perfect candidate for a bookbinding restoration project or an excellent source for individual card grading.
• Volume 1 (Winter Games): The interior text block shows significant paper aging and wear. A fold-out map has a tear .
• Volume 2 (Summer Games): The internal pages and photo cards are in strong, well-preserved condition. However, the outer blue cloth spine cover has split completely away from the text block. The internal cloth mesh holding the pages together remains intact, but the front and back cover boards are currently detached at the spine and require stabilization or PVA adhesive re-backing.
Despite the exterior spine damage, the individual collectible cards inside—especially the sought-after Jesse Owens rookie profiles—remain clean and structurally sound. Please review all provided photos to assess the exact cosmetic and structural state of the bindings.
