Offered for sale is an original pre-war silver gelatin landscape photograph dated October 1937.
The photograph depicts the Schneekoppe (Śnieżka), the highest peak of the Riesengebirge - Karkonosze Mountains viewed from the Schwarze Koppe. The image captures the summit emerging above low cloud and mist in the valley below, with the 1936 repaired silhouette of the summit structures visible along the horizon.
The lower mount bears contemporary handwritten inscriptions in period German cursive (Sütterlin/Kurrent style):
Left:
Blick v. d. schwarzen Koppe n. d. Schneekoppe
Right:
Oktober 1937
Presentation & Condition
The photograph is presented in an original period exhibition-style mount and frame. The print is mounted within a multi-layer mat arrangement with a broad bottom margin reserved for the handwritten title and date.
The reverse remains sealed with its original paper backing and period hanger. The frame is unopened and retains its nine decade original presentation. As the frame has not been opened, any information that may be present beneath the mount or on the reverse of the photograph remains unknown.
Light age toning and minor foxing are present at the backing edges, consistent with age. The photograph, mount, frame, and backing survive as an intact historical Frame: 16 3/8 in. x 12 1/4 in.
• Visible Photograph: 8 3/4 in. x 6 3/4 in.
Updated: included additional glare free photos.
