Vintage black-and-white photographic postcard showing the historic Jesse Lee Home for Children in Seward, Alaska, with its buildings beneath a spectacular snow-covered mountain.
The Jesse Lee Home was a Methodist-operated children’s home and boarding institution serving primarily Alaska Native children.
The reverse features a handwritten message signed “Helen,” describing the girls’ building, boys’ building, and the central dining room, kitchen and boiler room.
Postmarked Seward, Alaska, March 28, 1941, with original postage stamp.
The Jesse Lee Home is an important part of Alaska history. Benny Benson, who designed the Alaska territorial flag in 1927, was a resident. The historic buildings were later damaged or demolished.
