Offered up for sale is the pictured 18 x 12 cm vintage original Type I darkroom photographic print of the 1950 Ferrari 166 Inter Bertone Cabriolet, chassis 057/S (design credited to Nuccio Bertone). The print carries the “foto Moisio” photographer credit and studio stamp on the front lower margin, with the Foto Moisio Torino studio address (Gall. S. Federico, 16) and negative number 8777 written in pencil within blue ink stamp. There’s also a Carrozzeria Bertone S.p.A. company stamp (Corso Peschiera 221, Torino) — indicating this print originated as part of Bertone’s own promotional archive. A period pencil caption on the verso reads “Ferrari 2500 1952,” an apparent contemporary mislabeling.
This exact image is documented on record as a reference photograph for chassis 057/S and was used by Bertone as part of their promotional materials distributed into the 1980s (see examples). This photograph is from an archive of period Italian automotive press photography acquired at sale in Wisconsin and housed in original 1950s Neoplastico Milano vinyl binders. The binders featured period-correct cloisonné pins for the Arnolt Corporation (Pegasus logo) and/or the Bertone shield — physical evidence consistent with an origin from the estate of S.H. “Wacky” Arnolt or a family member. This pioneering American importer close working relationship with Bertone and the Italian coachbuilding world is well documented. The archive includes studio-stamped prints from Foto Moisio Torino, Bertazzini Torino, Corrado Milano, and Publifoto Torino, reflecting direct sourcing from the Turin automotive press and coachbuilder promotional circuit of the era. This is the only print that is 18 x 12 cm; the rest of the prints are approximately 24 x 18 cm, consistent with mid-century European press photo standards. All of these photographs bear either period-correct stamps, pencil marks, or embossed blind stamps from Carrozzeria Bertone.
