1975 Girls Vacation Myrtle Beach Photo Lot 22 Candid Intimate Vernacular 1970s
Wonderful cohesive lot of 22 original color snapshots documenting a group of young women on summer vacation in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, in 1975.
More than typical tourist snapshots, these photos capture the wonderfully candid and intimate quality of a friends’ beach vacation in the mid-1970s. The group includes swimsuits and period fashions, lounging and laughing in their vacation accommodations, getting ready, reading, sleeping, sightseeing, posing for the camera, and casual outdoor scenes around Myrtle Beach.
The photographs are full of authentic 1970s details, including halter and crop tops, bell-bottom/flared pants, bikinis and sleepwear, period furniture and interiors, vintage cars, a Volkswagen Beetle, and a Texaco station. Several especially candid indoor images have the spontaneous, unguarded quality that makes vernacular photography such an evocative record of everyday life.
Handwritten information on the backs identifies the group as “Summer vacation – 1975 / Myrtle Beach, South Carolina,” with several of the women also identified by name. The photographs were removed from the same original period photo album and are being kept together as a single vacation group.
Condition: Original vintage photographs show normal age-related wear. Many have yellowish discoloration and/or traces of old album-page adhesive on the backs from long-term storage in a period photo album. The residue is dry and not currently sticky. Some photographs also show light spotting or discoloration. These issues are primarily on the reverse sides and generally do not materially affect the photographic images. Please review all listing photos carefully for condition.
A terrific little 1975 Myrtle Beach time capsule and an appealing collection for anyone interested in 1970s vernacular photography, candid photography, vintage fashion, beach culture, women’s social history, or everyday Americana.
Lot includes all 22 original photographs shown.
