Charlie’s letter is on “21” Brands, Inc. pictorial letterhead (23 W 52nd St, NYC), August 18, 1966, signed “Charlie.” Jerry’s letter is on Jack & Charlie’s “21” Club pictorial letterhead (21 W. 52nd St., NYC), September, 1966. Both letters are written to Murray Rappaport, an accountant, and 50-year veteran of the hospitality industry, written for a celebration held at the Waldorf-Astoria, September 28, 1966. The 2 letters are in excellent condition.
The “'21” was one of New York’s social and culinary landmarks for 90 years, originally operating as a speakeasy during the Prohibition. The 21 Club, often simply 21, was a traditional American cuisine restaurant and former prohibition-era speakeasy, located at 21 West 52nd Street in New York City. Prior to its closure in 2020, the club had been active for 90 years, and it had hosted almost every US president since Franklin Delano Roosevelt. It had a hidden wine cellar where it stored the collections of celebrities such as Elizabeth Taylor and Sophia Loren.
