We are proud to offer this stunning, lapidary-finished cabinet specimen from the historic Koch Shaft in the Silver Mines District of Missouri. Formerly housed in the noted Cox Collection, this 680-gram piece has been expertly processed to showcase the vibrant, high-temperature hydrothermal geology of the St. Francois Mountains. Expert Lapidary Finish Unlike standard raw ore, this specimen has been heavily worked to maximize its display potential. It features a precision-cut base, allowing it to stand perfectly upright on any shelf or mineral cabinet. Both main display faces have been brought to a glass-like finish on a 3000-grit diamond lap, creating a flawless window directly into the internal structure of the vein. The Mineral Assemblage The double-sided polish reveals an incredible, high-contrast geological environment: - The Matrix: The bulk of the specimen consists of dense, hydrothermally altered quartz that has been heavily flooded with iron oxides, resulting in a striking landscape of deep, vibrant reds, oranges, and earthy yellows.
- The Zinnwaldite Vein: Cutting directly through the vibrant quartz is a distinct, dark vein of Zinnwaldite.
