Antique 18.5” Hand Carved Wood Mother Cabrini Saint Statue Catholic Folk Art: $355.50
Beautiful antique hand-carved wooden devotional statue depicting Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini, known as Mother Cabrini, shown with clasped praying hands, traditional religious habit, prominent bow beneath her chin, and cross at her chest. Mother Cabrini was born in Italy in 1850, founded the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and became one of the most important Catholic figures associated with immigrant communities in the United States.
Standing an impressive 18.5 inches tall, this example has considerably more presence than the small molded religious figures commonly found today. Its carved wooden construction, elongated form, expressive face, deep folds of the habit, and aged warm finish give it the character of an older ecclesiastical or European devotional carving. The distinctive Mother Cabrini iconography makes it especially appealing to collectors of Catholic antiques, carved religious figures, convent memorabilia, and folk religious art.
