A lovely Golden Age Christmas postcard, postmarked on Christmas Eve 1910 in Hartford, Connecticut.
The front is heavily embossed and features a faux red wax seal stamped with a gilt good-luck horseshoe at the upper left. A snow-trimmed oval vignette shows a winter village: snow-covered cottages with glowing windows, tall evergreens, and a stream reflecting a low golden moon. A large spray of glossy green holly with clusters of red berries sweeps across the bottom. \"Christmas Greetings\" is lettered in red and gold Gothic script with gold dot accents, and the whole design is framed by a gilt-stippled border.
The divided back is printed \"POST CARD\" in green. It carries a 1-cent green Benjamin Franklin stamp from the Washington-Franklin series, tied by a Hartford, Conn. machine cancel dated DEC 24, 3:30 PM, 1910. The card is addressed to Mrs. W. G. Hollister of Silver Lane, Conn., and carries a handwritten greeting in period script:
\"All good wishes for a bright and happy Christmas and may you have many more happy returns of the day. Mrs. M. F. Cady\"
The deep embossing shows through clearly on the reverse. This is a nice piece of Connecticut postal history and a charming holiday display piece.
Measures approximately 5 3/8 inches wide.
