Up for sale is a rare, authentic antique D. S. Brown & Co. NY Fine Soaps advertising token. Dating back to the late 19th century (circa 1880s), this historical piece of American mercantile history is made of compressed composition wood (early molded composition/vulcanite style material).
The front features deep, crisp embossed lettering reading \"D. S. BROWN & CO. FINE SOAPS NEW YORK\". The reverse side displays a beautiful, highly detailed patriotic design of an embossed American Eagle holding an olive branch.
These durable tokens were distributed by the prominent New York City soap makers and perfumers, intentionally designed to double as functional checkers game pieces for families. A wonderful survivor in excellent, solid antique condition with clear typography and smooth edges.
