A tobacco jar with TABAK pressed into the belly, the Dutch word for the leaf. Copper, Art Deco, circa 1920–1940, the pressed ware made in the Netherlands in those years. A band of ovals under a brass rim, a dark lid with a small finial.
The lacquer has aged to an oil-slick, purple and green where the light hits. The inside is tinned, the old way of keeping the leaf off the copper. Light in the hand, 225 grams, and it sits as tobacciana or as a jar on a sideboard.
