Antique lithographed metal advertising/document box issued by the International Trust Company of Boston, Massachusetts, promoting the company’s Safe Deposit Vaults at 45 Milk Street, corner of Devonshire Street, Boston.
The exterior features striking black and gold graphics designed to resemble a secure vault or strongbox and prominently reads:
SAFE DEPOSIT VAULTS
OF THE
INTERNATIONAL TRUST COMPANY
The printed advertising explains that the box was presented to customers for collecting important papers and valuables before placing them for safekeeping in the company’s safe-deposit vaults.
The interior contains extensive original advertising listing the types of property customers could protect, including wills, contracts, securities, insurance policies, deeds, mortgages, certificates, bonds, jewelry, diamonds, historical documents and other valuables.
The company also advertises larger storage vaults for items such as silver plate, paintings and similar property.
Approximately 10.5 inches long.
Hinged metal construction with attractive original lithographed decoration inside and out. Good antique condition with expected scratches, finish wear, oxidation, edge wear and other evidence of age and use. Graphics remain strong and highly readable. Small inventory/collection sticker remains inside, as photographed.
A particularly interesting piece of early Boston banking, safe-deposit vault, financial, insurance and advertising memorabilia.
