Antique L.S. Starrett Co. Fay-pattern outside spring caliper made in Athol, Massachusetts. The tool is marked with the June 2, 1885 patent date, which refers to the original patent and not necessarily the exact year this example was manufactured. This style was produced for many years and appears to date from the late 1800s to early 1900s.
Features classic forged-steel construction with the distinctive spring joint, fine adjustment screw and early Starrett markings. A nice original machinist’s measuring tool with honest age-related patina and wear. Adjustment appears complete and intact. Great piece for a vintage tool collection, machinist display, Starrett collection or early American industrial décor.
