Beautiful and unusual antique Victorian shellwork photograph frame featuring an original tintype portrait.
The frame is decorated with rows of small natural iridescent seashells and retains portions of its deep burgundy velvet lining. The center holds an old tintype photograph of two people posed together. The combination of shellwork, velvet, and tintype gives this piece a wonderful 19th-century folk-art appearance.
Measures approximately 7\" x 5.5\" overall.
This piece is in antique, as-found condition and shows considerable age-related wear. There are missing shells, most noticeably along portions of the top and corners, and part of the original velvet lining is missing/worn away. The remaining velvet shows fading, discoloration, and deterioration. The tintype has surface wear, scratches, spotting/oxidation, and age-related deterioration. The backing is old and has tape/paper repairs or reinforcement. Please review all photos carefully, as they are an important part of the condition description.
I have not attempted to clean, restore, replace shells, or alter the frame.
