Arthur Court cast aluminum bowl in a shell form with a koi fish design, dated 1977.
The bowl is cast as an open clam or scallop shell with a wide flaring rim, irregular flared points at the edges, and deep sweeping curves through the body. A koi swims across the floor of the bowl in high relief, with finely scored scales, layered flowing fins, and a broad split tail, set against faint cast ripple marks in the surrounding surface. The fish's eye is a domed reddish orange carnelian cabochon. The finish is bright polished aluminum with a soft satin cast texture in the recesses.
Marks: impressed on the underside, a rectangular maker's stamp reading ARTHUR COURT DESIGNS, COPYRIGHTED, with a copyright symbol and the date 1977.
Measurements: approximately 12 inches across and approximately 9 inches deep.
Weight: 2.5 pounds.
A strong serving and display piece for fruit, bread, salad, or keys and mail on an entry table, and a natural fit for coastal, mid-century, and California modern rooms.
CONDITION
Pre-owned, very good condition. Scattered fine scratches and light scuffing across the interior and the rim, visible at an angle under direct light, with a few small dark spots and a duller grey patch near one edge. Minor casting irregularities and pinholes are original to the manufacturing process. The carnelian eye is intact, secure, and unchipped. No cracks, no bends, no repairs. Aluminum shows normal surface dulling from age rather than pitting. Please review all photos carefully, they are part of the description and show exact condition.
