Authentic Prewar/WWII Imperial Japanese Navy Yokogawa Type 9BF2R Aircraft Magneto
Original Japanese naval-aircraft magneto manufactured by Yokogawa Electric Works for the nine-cylinder Nakajima Hikari Type 1 and Type 2 radial engines.
The Nakajima Hikari engine was used in several important Imperial Japanese Navy aircraft, including the Nakajima A4N “Claude” carrier fighter, Aichi D1A2 “Susie” carrier dive bomber, Yokosuka B4Y1 “Jean” carrier attack aircraft and other early Japanese military aircraft.
The original Japanese identification plate remains attached and is marked:
• Yokogawa Type 9BF2R
• Serial No. 6167
• Yokogawa Electric Works
The magneto measures approximately 9 inches long and 7 inches high. It retains its original aged finish, distributor housing, mounting flange and identification plate. It has not been restored, repainted or internally inspected. Mechanical and electrical operating condition is unknown; it is being offered as a historical artifact, display piece or potential restoration component.
This is an exceptionally scarce and substantial original Japanese naval-aviation engine component. Complete, identifiable Yokogawa magnetos for the Nakajima Hikari engine are rarely encountered on the collector market.
