You\'ll notice a very high concentration of Au in this particular cab. The cab\'s parent was sourced in the Rocky Mtns. It\'s nice being able to pass on any part of a provenance story. While the mine-site and exact origin where this was found remain unknown, the discovery occurred many years ago in the Leadville mining district of Colorado\'s Lake Cty. Touring the region which lies above \'the highest incorporated city in the U.S.\' via Youtube, one realizes how extensive this mineralized zone is. There\'s abandoned mines sitting idle everywhere. Until now, I had no idea Rocky Mtns. gold could be so nice.

Vein filling whichretains the host matrix, that is,quartz, and harbors the precious cargo,gold, if dense enough and rich enough, becomesone of theearth\'s more highly-prizedgemstones. Just toliven things up a bit, mineral characteristics of this vein-filling varies from vein to another resulting in color, mineral, and density variations.
