CHINESE GREEN GLAZED GINGER JAR
Lotus & Egret Relief · Approximately 9 Inches · No Lid
A substantial Chinese pottery ginger jar with rich green glaze and dimensional lotus-and-egret decoration. Approximately 9 inches tall and wide, with contrasting blue-gray, olive, and ochre details. Offered without a lid.
DESCRIPTION
This rounded jar features a relief scene of a long-legged waterbird among lotus blossoms, broad leaves, curling stems, and seed pods. Detailed feathers and leaf veins give the decoration texture, while individual botanical elements continue around the body.
The green glaze varies in tone and sheen, with areas of iridescence. Contrasting glazes distinguish the raised flowers, foliage, and bird. The short neck and rounded shoulders balance its generous proportions.
The decoration resembles Chinese relief wares commonly described as Wang Bingrong style. This is a stylistic comparison; no attribution to the artist is claimed. Possibly late 19th to early 20th century, although its precise age and kiln remain unconfirmed.
