$50.00

Black and white illustration. Original page from Fairy Tales from Hans Christian Andersen, illustrated by Dugald Stewart Walker, Doubleday, Page & Company, New York, 1914. A sublime illustration — one of the great images of the collection. A winged woman hurtles through a night sky brilliant with stars, her cloak streaming and billowing, the moon shining through the translucent fabric. The sense of speed, freedom, and the cold beauty of the night air is captured perfectly. Caption: 'Oh, what a flight that was through the air; the wind caught her cloak, and the moon shone through it.'
