It belonged to my father, who tried to get his hands on anything Frazetta-related. He was a huge fan and a pretty good artist in his own right.
Unlike a standard magazine or poster reproduction, this is a pre-press printer’s color proof produced prior to the final magazine printing. Proofs of this type were working production materials rather than items intended for public distribution.
The artwork features classic Frazetta fantasy/adventure imagery with vivid color and exceptional display appeal. A handwritten vintage notation in the lower margin reads:
“This is a color proof before the actual printing – it is better quality & rare (only 6 copies).”
My father met Frank Frazetta and interviewed him in 1973. He also took several black-and-white photographs of Frazetta during that visit; those photographs are shown for provenance/context only and arenot included in this sale.
While I cannot independently verify the handwritten note or the exact production quantity, the piece itself displays numerous characteristics consistent with a vintage printing proof of the era, including printer’s crop marks, registration targets, color bars, and GAF Proofing identification.
Due to the dimensions and fragility of the piece, it will be shipped securely in a custom rigid box with protective archival packaging.
