Gen[era]l,
Capt[ain] Winstead of this commandhas just arrived from ‘Johnsons Island’ on exchange & informs me that thereis some 150 or 160 of our men now at Tullahoma (recently exchanged). If you see proper to order them to this placeyou will confer a great favor, as we can easily mount them in the Country. In the party is a certain A.W. Rac formerly aCapt[ain] in this Reg[imen]t who, shortly after our return from K[entuck]ydeserted & carried off some 8 or 10 men and 400 dollars Regimental Money. By having him arrested and rigidly watched orguarded until charges &c. can be made out & forwarded you willgreat[ly] oblige.
Very Respectfully,
Your Ob[e]d[ien]t S[er]v[an]t,
W.G. Owen
Maj[or] Com[mandin]g
