• Old label residue remains on the underside

The underside appears to be signed Julia Martinez and Santa Clara Pueblo. Portions of the inscription are worn and partly obscured by old label residue. Enlarged photographs are included so buyers can review the signature directly.

From The Rev. Virgil Hague Santa Clara Pueblo Pottery Collection.

Rev. Virgil Hague was a United Methodist minister active in northern New Mexico and connected with the McCurdy Schools in Española. Through his regional relationships, he developed ties within the Santa Clara Pueblo community and acquired pottery directly from Santa Clara Pueblo artists.

Rev. Hague preserved the pottery together with original artist cards, period photographs, newspaper clippings, and related historical materials.

Following Rev. Hague’s passing, the collection passed directly to his daughter and remained in her care until her passing. It was subsequently acquired from her estate.
