The Magome region of Nakatsugawa City, Gifu Prefecture, is located almost in the center of Japan, at the southern end of the Central Southern Alps. Its sloping terrain offers a satoyama landscape of rice paddies and forests.The Nakasendo highway, opened in the early Edo period, runs through the center of the region. Continuing from Kyoto, this old road enters the rugged 80km section known as the "Kiso Road," which preserves the scenery of the Edo period, beyond the local post town of Magome-juku. It then continues on to Tokyo.----------------
