LADYEMMA HAMILTON HAS DINNER WITH LORD HORATIO NELSON\'S SISTER
HAMILTON, LADY EMMA. (1765 –1815). English model, dancer and actress; was the favorite model and muse of the English portraitist George Romney; she was the mistress of a series of wealthy men, culminating in the naval hero Lord Horatio Nelson. Scarce Autograph Letter Signed “Emma Hamilton”. One full page, quarto. “Sunday Evening”. No place, to an unnamed correspondent. She writes: “Miss Younge has just told me my Dear Madame that you will do us the great pleasure on Tuesday of Dining with Mrs Boltan [Lord Nelson’s sister] and myself. I can’t tell you how happy I feel. I hope at 5 o’clock or by much sooner as you please to see you in Hoyers [?] street. Being dear Madame your obliged Emma Hamilton”.
Emma was introduced to Nelson’s sister Susanna Bolton in 1800, and the two women became friends, as Susanna welcomed Emma into the family fabric. Their friendship lasted until Bolton’s death in 1813, well after Nelson’s other friends and acquaintances distanced themselves from Emma after his death in 1805 at Trafalgar. Hamilton\'s full autograph letters are uncommon.
