Selling a truly amazing Navajo transitional period circa 1890-1900 Eye Dazzler blanket. The colors are extremely vibrant and stunning to see in person. The weave of this example is extremely tight.
The piece could be Germantown and could be worth substantially more but I have not confirmed that it is a Germantown example. My research tells me transitional blankets are thick, heavy and stiff. To me, the example is extremely smooth. I am selling a Three Turkey Ruin rug made with churro handspun wool and it feels rough and thick compared to this blanket.
Based on similar examples of this size that are selling at exclusive galleries like Medicine Man Gallery in Tucson, this example would retail for between $4000 and $5500. The colors in this blanket are far superior to any examples currently offered there. Measures 65 inches by 45 inches.
Eye dazzler blankets are renowned for there intricate geometric designs, sharp serrated diamonds and bright, clashing colors.
I took some photos of the corners to illustrate some wear commensurate with age. There is some wear to the selvage. You may wish to have the blanket professionally cleaned. There is minimal soiling. Based on its condition, I suspect it was never placed on the floor. The colors are truly brilliant and I do not dare try to clean the blanket myself. All examples I researched at Medicine Man Gallery or Garland\'s have color wear or selvage wear which is understandable considering these blankets are well over 100 years old.
There a few examples similar to this one selling at Garland\'s in Sedona, Arizona. One in particular is slightly larger with the same brilliance in color selling for $7500.
