GOLD QUARTZ CABOCHON
from COLORADO
GOLD in QUARTZ from
the ROCKY MTNS.Welcome to the Gold of Eldorado!Here\'s a different species of GQ. This cab\'s parent was found in the Rocky Mtns. While the exact site the ore came from remains unknown, my sources tells me it occurred in the Leadville mining district of Colorado\'s Lake Cty. A prospector collected the rock back in the 1960s. Touring the region which lies above the highest incorporated city in the U.S., one realizes how extensive this mineralized zone is. There\'s abandoned mines everywhere. Until now, I had no idea gold from that region could be so nice.
Weight:28.1Grains (Troy) - 9Carats Dimensions:19X 13.9X 3.8 mmA well-crafted GQ cab adds both beauty and value to almost any karat gold setting. It\'s a shame to see cheap-looking stones mounted inside otherwise gorgeous rings. If you\'re drawn to exotic gems from the western U.S. goldfields, maybe you\'re feeling the attraction. As sole proprietor/operator of my store, I\'ve been selling native gold and platinum products here for roughly ten years. Back in the 80s and 90s, I was a full-time placer-miner. There\'s just something about hunting for (and working with) the elusive yellow metal known as gold. For one thing, any normal (or abnormal) person can venture into the hills and dig for precious metal hunt with a realistic chance of being successful. Believe me, finding a good-sized nugget never fails to be exciting. As you stroll through my store, expect to find plenty of useful prospecting information and stories based on my own goldfield experiences. If you don\'t know much about gold, gold ores/gold quartz, lapidary, gemology, mineralogy, geology, or mining for gold; if you don\'t care for jewelry at all, justbuy andcachethis beautiful rock shot full of gleaming precious metal. GQ or \'gold quartz\' is, basically, gold ore. When ore is rich and aesthetic enough, it becomes desirable as jewelry-grade gemstone. For hundreds of years, jewelers have been incorporating it into spectacular, karat-gold, works of art. Almost any kind of rockcan be cut and made into a cab, but GQ is a different mineral altogether because it carries the precious cargo, gold. You would not wish tocrush this type ofstone just to extract the gold. That would be like crushing gem grade diamond to use as an abrasive! Gem-grade gold quartz isasrare, precious, and beautiful a mineral complex as youwill find on the planet. If you\'re unfamiliar with gold quartz, it\'s essentially gold ore...high-grade gold ore. When conditions are just right, metallic gold-crystals form (grow)inside quartz veins. This occurs as super-heated silica and mineral-rich fluids cool. It\'s then that metals like gold precipitate and harden. This is part of a process known as metallogenesis. Naturalweathering fromricher portions of these gold veins are responsible for a multitude of massive placer fields found around the world. Vein filling whichretains the host matrix, that is,quartz, and harbors the precious cargo, gold, if dense enough and rich enough, becomesone of theearth\'s more highly-prizedgemstones. Just toliven things up a bit, mineral characteristics of this vein-filling varies from vein to another resulting in color, mineral, and density variations. This stone is an outstanding example of what I\'ve just described. The photo is an enlarged representation of the cab. A U.S. dime, ifshown, is 7.8 mm in diameter. If you have any questions, pleaseaskthem prior to offerding. You won\'t find any.Ideal in nativeminerals with visible gold, notreplicas, not\'paint-ons\'.I don\'tpeddle \'simulated\' specimens madewith minute amounts of gold or no real gold at all. No fake nuggets here, folks. I was a professional placer miner myself and personally have bought stuff with gold painted on it. Some so-called\'natural gold quartz\'specimens acquired had tiny chunks of placer goldgluedinto the vugs of barren rock. If folks want to fake their specimens, then it should be mandatory they advertise their products as simulations or replications. All of my advertised specimens, slabs, cabochons, gold oreset alare authentic and containnaturally-occurring, native gold and/orare composedalmost entirelyof naturally-occurring gold (i.e. gold nuggets, gold flakes, wire gold specimens). The purity of this gold will vary, but if it\'s from California, you can count on it being fairly high, from 70% to 90% pure on average. For comparision,a 14Kgold wedding band is 58% pure gold.Theorigin of thisgemstoneis a veinsystem somewhere in theSierraNevadaMtns. ofCalifornia. Thanks forchecking out our digs. I hope you find rich ground ahead. Gold ofEldorado 1-7-17
