Large Raw Amber Specimen – 3 lb 7.5 oz – Natural Rough Amber with Blue UV Fluorescence
A truly substantial piece of natural raw Amber, weighing more than 3 pounds and retaining its rugged, unpolished exterior.
In ordinary lighting, this specimen displays deep brown, cognac, reddish amber and honey-gold tones throughout its natural rough surface. When examined more closely or illuminated, translucent amber areas become visible beneath the darker exterior.
Under UV light, portions of the specimen produce a striking blue fluorescence, creating an entirely different appearance from its natural-light presentation.
This is an impressive piece for the collector who appreciates amber in its natural, unpolished state rather than as a finished jewelry stone.

Why This Piece Is Special
At approximately 9 inches across and over 3½ pounds, this is not a small piece of amber rough. Its substantial size allows the natural structure, layering, color variations and irregular formation of the material to remain visible.
Different lighting reveals completely different characteristics. The specimen can appear quite dark under normal room lighting, while stronger light exposes warm translucent amber beneath the surface. Under UV illumination, areas fluoresce vivid blue.
Display & Collecting Uses
This specimen would make an unusual addition to:
- Amber collections
- Fossil and natural-history collections
- Mineral and geological displays
- Curiosity cabinets
- Collector shelves
- Natural specimen décor
- Educational displays
- UV-reactive mineral collections
- Lapidary or material-reference collections
It also makes an impressive conversation piece simply displayed in its natural form.
For Lapidary Use
This piece is being sold primarily as a raw collector specimen. An experienced amber worker or lapidary may also find the material interesting for polishing, examination or other projects.
Because Amber is an organic gemstone material and considerably softer and more delicate than most mineral specimens, any cutting, sanding, polishing or preparation should be undertaken by someone familiar with working with Amber.
Important – Natural Raw Amber
Amber is naturally lightweight, relatively soft and fragile compared with stone.
Raw Amber commonly has an uneven weathered exterior and may show natural fissures, layers, pits, rough areas and areas that can flake or shed small surface fragments during handling or shipping. Minor flaking from a raw specimen is normal and should not be considered damage.
This specimen should be handled carefully and should not be dropped or placed where it can be knocked over.
The UV photographs were taken under ultraviolet lighting specifically to demonstrate fluorescence. The bright blue appearance is a UV reaction and is not the color the specimen displays under normal lighting.
Please review all photographs carefully for condition, natural surface characteristics and scale.
You will receive the exact raw Amber specimen shown in this listing.
Natural specimens vary greatly in color, texture, opacity and fluorescence. UV response may also appear different depending upon the wavelength and strength of the UV light used.
