Striking Large Mata Ortiz Graphite Bowl – 12.5" Diameter3.25" T
A fabulous, unique piece of Mata Ortiz pottery from Chihuahua, Mexico, with very impressive visual impact.
The bowl features a dramatic deep graphite-black finish with an exceptionally intricate geometric design. The interior is decorated with hundreds of precisely arranged rectangular elements radiating outward in beautifully balanced sections, creating an architectural pattern that changes as the bowl is viewed from different angles.
The exterior of the bowl features hundreds raised, hand-worked forms that give the bowl an extraordinary amount of dimension. The contrast between the textured exterior, smooth polished rim, and finely patterned interior makes this a particularly eye-catching example of Mata Ortiz pottery.
The bowl appears to be unsigned, however it does have a small sticker indicating its origin of Mata Ortiz/Casas Grandes. The quality of the design and the sheer amount of decorative work make this an especially compelling piece. It is in excellent condition, commensurate with its age. Minor signs of surface wear. No cracks or chips. It will ship well packaged and fully insured.
