Binding firm despite cracked front hinge. Covers bright with rubbing, scratches, staining, and wear to corners. Spine cloth attractive though lettering is rubbed away. Pages evenly browned throughout.

Ascarce and visually striking McLoughlin Bros. military painting bookissued at the height of American chromolithographic children’s publishing. Large quarto format with colorful pictorial boards, embossed red cloth spine, and dramatic imagery of international soldiers, cavalry, artillery, and national flags.
The cover design is especially strong, combiningworld flags, military uniforms, cavalry scenes, and artillery imageryin vivid late-Victorian chromolithography. Interior illustrations depict soldiers and military subjects from several nations including Germany and Japan, reflecting the international military fascination of the pre-World War I era.
Unlike many surviving children’s painting books, this example remainslargely untouched. The first several pages were colored or partially colored by a child owner long ago, while most of the remaining book remains clean and uncolored.Five full-page color platessurvive, adding strong display and collectible appeal.

Condition:Very Good Minus / near Very Good.Binding remains firm despite a cracked front hinge. Covers remain bright and attractive overall, with rubbing to extremities, light scratching and staining to boards, and two corners noticeably rubbed. Red cloth spine remains attractive structurally though the spine lettering is no longer legible. Interior pages evenly browned throughout, typical of inexpensive turn-of-the-century paper stock. Most pages remain uncolored.
