The recording documents the post-launch press conference following the unsuccessful May 3, 1986 launch of the GOES-G meteorological satellite aboard the Delta 178 launch vehicle.
NASA historical records state that the launch ended in failure after the Delta rocket’s main engine shut down prematurely. The vehicle went off course and was subsequently destroyed.
