The Baron Hotel:
The Baron Hotel in Kabul is a heavily fortified compound located less than a mile from Hamid Karzai International Airport. Established in 2005, it became a central hub for Western journalists and diplomats. During the chaotic August 2021 evacuations, British forces utilized it as a key processing center for citizens and eligible Afghans attempting to flee.
On August 26, 2021, the hotel became the site of a devastating suicide bombing claimed by ISIS-K, which killed dozens of people, including 13 U.S. service members, in the crowds gathered outside the facility.
