Original Maria Ciucur Romanian Byzantine Orthodox Icon – Theotokos & Christ Child
A beautiful original Byzantine Orthodox icon by Romanian iconographer Maria Ciucur, featuring the Theotokos (Mother of God) with the Christ Child in the traditional Byzantine style. The icon is mounted on a solid wood panel and features an embossed silver- and gold-toned metal riza (oklad), leaving the hand-painted faces and hands visible.
The reverse retains the original Maria Ciucur Certificate of Authenticity, individually hand-signed and numbered Serial No. 516, confirming this as an original work by the artist rather than a mass-produced reproduction.
Traditional Greek inscriptions ΜΡ ΘΥ (Mother of God) and IC XC (Jesus Christ) are present in the iconography.
Measures approximately 10” H x 8” W x 1” D.
Great overall condition. Solid wood panel with a small age-related surface check on the reverse that does not extend through the panel or affect the stability or display of the icon. Please review all photos.
