Scarce World War II-era Hollywood guide produced specifically for servicemen visiting Los Angeles and Southern California.
This remarkable wartime booklet offered servicemen a guide to Hollywood nightlife, clubs, dance halls, entertainment, restaurants, tourist attractions and other destinations.
The cover advertises:
"100 Things You Need to Know""100 Places Where to Go""100 Girls by Fritz Willis"
Interior illustrations include numerous period cartoons and pin-up images by Fritz Willis, who became a well-known American pin-up and glamour illustrator.
Among the fascinating sections shown are:
JUMP AND JIVEFOR GALS AND GAGSFOR TRAVELERSMINIATURE PIN-UPS
The booklet discusses actual wartime Los Angeles and Hollywood establishments and nightlife, making it an unusual primary-source artifact documenting the entertainment culture encountered by American servicemen during World War II.
The reverse was designed so the booklet itself could be mailed as a souvenir and reads:
"SOUVENIR FROM HOLLYWOODLos Angeles and Southern California"
with a 1-cent stamp mailing area.
This example's mailing panel remains unused.
