Huichol Yarn Painting:

Yarn paintings are made by pressing yarn into the natural adhesive of bees and mixed with pine ressin. Originally, yarn painting is an evolution of votive offerings left at sacred sites honoring the Wixarika Huichol deities. Now yarn paintings have evolved to modern scribes that, like petroghys, tell a story of our tribe and ancestors.

Yarn Painting Made and Signed:

Says it was made by a woman Huichol Artist from the Col. Zitakua

Story written on back:

"Jikuri Peyote Sagrado" in spanish

Transaltion:

Hikuri Sacred Peyote

In this yarn painting we see Magick feathers that are used by cure or cleanse a person sick from not having fulfilled our tradition or a manda (a special petition to the gods in exchange for ceremony offerings) that we are required to do every year to take offerings to the sacred places in Real de Catorce where the peyote is. The deer shows because they are who communicates spiritually to the four cardinal directions. And this is why we take our offerings where the Shaman indicates because they communicate with the gods as we as the peyote pilgrimagers that help us with what we have to complete.
