Rare Dimetrodon Milleri Spine: $3500.00
For sale is a genuine composite Dimetrodon Milleri neural spine from the Late Pennsylvanian Period, approximately 305 million years old (confirmed through zircon U-Pb geochronology). It was found near Windthorst in Archer County, Texas, in the Moran Formation. The bones were found in a paleosol clay bed, which has given the fossil a striking multicolored appearance, a natural patina caused by mineral staining in the soil. The spine measures about 13 inches long.
Prep work includes replacing the anterior zygapophysis (the forward-facing articular processes), and prep at the contact points where individual bone pieces would connect. Additionally, the transverse processes (where the rib would have attached) have been completely restored.
This is a solid, display-worthy fossil from one of the most iconic prehistoric predators. An excellent addition to any collection.
