Royal Doulton Kingsware “Mr. Pickwick Proposes a Toast” Whisky Jug — Noke Signature
A distinctive Royal Doulton Kingsware ceramic jug featuring “Mr. Pickwick Proposes a Toast,” a scene associated with Charles Dickens’ The Pickwick Papers.
The front depicts a bespectacled Mr. Pickwick standing with a raised glass beside four seated companions gathered around a table. Rich amber, honey-brown, and deep brown glaze surrounds the colorful scene, with green, ochre, and reddish accents bringing the characters to life. The glossy finish and molded relief give the decoration depth and character.
The reverse bears the inscription “Mr. Pickwick proposes a toast.” A NOKE signature appears near the lower edge of the decorated scene, and the underside bears the Royal Doulton England crowned lion factory backstamp.
The jug has a rounded body, narrow neck, shaped pouring lip, and curved loop handle. An appealing display piece for collectors of Royal Doulton Kingsware, Dickens memorabilia, English pottery, and vintage barware.
