The display contains43 individual paper soldiers together with one field cannonand retains original printed McLoughlin Bros. New York markings together with a visibleSet No. 2identification. An old collector's label identifies the display asMcLoughlin Bros. Set #1 & Set #2 (1890's).
The figures have been beautifully arranged on an early blue presentation board and housed in a large antique gilt frame, creating a striking military display that is equally suitable for a collector or as wall décor.
I have spent considerable time researching this piece and have been unable to locate another framed example comparable to this display. Individual McLoughlin paper soldiers, later boxed soldier sets and uncut sheets occasionally appear for sale; however, I have not located another large framed display identified as Sets #1 & #2.Unlike later McLoughlin boxed soldier sets, this is a large early presentation display comprising forty-three individually hand-cut chromolithographed figures and one cannon, making it an extraordinary decorative and collectible example.
The figures retain wonderful original color and display extremely well. This is a scarce survivor from one of America's premier nineteenth-century toy and publishing companies and would make an outstanding addition to any collection of antique paper toys, military memorabilia, Victorian ephemera or McLoughlin Bros. material.

Dear valued buyer, please do note that because this artwork is framed with glass, I will remove the glass prior to shipping. The shipping companies have unfortunately damaged too many framed pieces over the years regardless of how carefully they are packed. If you would like the item shipped with the glass intact, I will gladly do so; however, I cannot accept responsibility for glass breakage during transit. Thank you for your understanding.
