Rich "Roasted" Native Gold: Cripple Creek, Teller County, Colorado, USA- Rare:
$425.00

This specimen represents classic roasted telluride ore from the historic Cripple Creek District, Teller County, Colorado, USA. Before cyanide milling, telluride-rich ores from this camp were commonly roasted, oxidizing the original gold–telluride minerals and leaving behind liberated native gold.

The piece shows a striking mix of deep red, brown, and black iron oxides with scattered bright gold specks and tiny blebs concentrated along fractures and vugs in the darker zones. Under strong light or magnification the gold stands out clearly against the oxidized matrix, making this an excellent teaching specimen for the effects of roasting on telluride ores. The back of the specimen preserves more massive red-brown matrix with additional fine gold, along with an old hand-written collection number that adds a bit of provenance character.

At roughly 6 cm across and 95 grams, it is a sturdy hand specimen with strong visual contrast—ideal for a specialized Cripple Creek, telluride-ore, or gold-ore suite.
