For sale is one of the most unique S1 Bowie’s I’ve ever owned. To say it’s a unicorn is an understatement, especially considering that I’ve owned over thirty S1, SS1 and the extremely rare 1F Bowie’s. I truly don’t want to sell it, but I need to thin out the herd. The uniqueness begins with the blade. It’s void of the country of origin “SEKI JAPAN” and the Special Forces Crest stamp. Also, the “5th Special Forces Group” stamp isn’t centered on the peak of the Bowie’s spine (see last pics). Next, the gorgeous black leather sheath. It’s 100% void of any markings front and back, which makes it super unique. Typically, a sheath like this will at least have “JAPAN” stamped on the back, but not this one.
Note: This is not a “STERILE” SS1 model Bowie. I’ve collected/published an SS1 Bowie on my website ONLYSOG and it doesn’t come close. Hence, I’ve determined that this knife must have went through the back door of Inchiro Hattori’s factory as it clearly wouldn’t pass inspection.
CONDITION. Has the typical patina of a very early S1 Bowie. The white plastic washers are discolored, the bluing on the guard and pommel have worn off, but the blade is unusually reflective (stored exceptionally well over the years). The SOG box logo side of the blade contains some light staining, very light imperfections on the edge (see pics), but other than that the knife is gorgeous. It hasn’t been resharpened, reflects no signs of usage, the guard and pommel are pristine and the leather handle is perfect as well. The matching black leather sheath is amazing! It’s by far the best condition I’ve ever seen and did come with the knife.
