SUZANi(Tajik Suzana, Uzbek So\'zana, Persian سوزندو) is a hand-embroidered wall carpetthat is mainly made in Uzbekistan. The word suzane in translation from theTajik language means “sewn with a needle”. The art of making such fabrics inIran is called suzandozi (Pers. سوزندوزی). Suzane, as a rule, is embroideredwith silk or floss with seams \"kandakhiel\" (type of smooth surface),\"basma\" (smooth surface attached), \"yurma\" (tambour), oncotton fabric, silk or velvet. The carpet is made with a lining, trimmed withbraid or black fabric. A closed composition with a wide elegant border and acentral field filled with one large patterned or several symmetrically arrangedrosettes or motives (often of symbolic meaning) of a flowering bush, fruits,flowers, sometimes with images of animals. Popular design motifs include thesun and moon, flowers (especially tulips, carnations, irises), leaves, cottonand vines, fruits (especially pomegranates), fish and birds.
