This is 50 grams of thulium metal in pieces of vacuum distilled crystal. The purity is 99.99% (4N), measured as thulium relative to total rare earth metals (Tm/TREM), which is the standard way to grade rare earth metals. The surface is bright silver with the tree-like, dendritic structure that distilled rare earth metals have, as in the photo.
Thulium is the second rarest of the lanthanides after promethium. Thulium suits element collections and periodic table displays, and also research and small scale lab work. It is used in laser host materials and fiber amplifiers, X-ray phosphors and scintillation detectors, high temperature alloys, and neutron capture studies.

Handling and storage
Thulium is a soft, ductile lanthanide. It is fairly stable in dry air but slowly tarnishes in moist air, so keep it in the sealed bag in a dry place and wear gloves when handling to keep the surface clean.
Packing and shipping
We pack the sample in a sealed plastic bag with padding, in a padded envelope or a box. We ship from Almaty, Kazakhstan by Kazpost registered air mail with a tracking number, within 5 business days after payment.
