Six images of this 83-year-old first edition are shown below; the illustrator, Bernard Garbutt, taught animators regarding the movement of animals at the Disney Studios in the 1940's. This book is: Trooper U. S. Army Dog, by Helen Orr Watson, Published by Houghton Mifflin Co., 1943, first edition. The book measures 8 1/2" x 5 3/4" and is 173 pages and in Very Good condition with some gentle wear, with a former owner's illustrated bookplate on a blank preliminary page, and with some gentle age-toning to the pages using paper "...to fit our war-time needs". There are eight, full-page, halftone illustrations by Bernard Garbutt; they are in Fine condition and blank on the reverse. Garbutt also has fully-decorated the endpapers (e.g., please see image #5 below for a detail); he also has done a wrap-around illustration on the dust jacket (i.e., please see the first three images below), which is not price-clipped (price: "$2.00") and in protective mylar. It is in Good-Very Good condition with some rubbing, edgewear, and three tape repairs on the inside. Regarding the book, there is no underlining, no foxing, and there are no loose pages; it will be shipped in a solid new box anywhere in the United States via USPS Media Mail for free.
