US Indian Wars M1887 Cavalry Carbine McClellan Leather Boot Scabbard RIA 45-70: $225.00
Authentic U.S. Indian Wars era Model 1887 Cavalry Carbine Leather Boot Scabbard for sale. Manufactured by Rock Island Arsenal (R.I.A.) for use with the McClellen saddle setup to carry the Springfield Trapdoor Carbine. Condition Details: Item is in good vintage condition. The leather is structurally sound and retains all original fastening straps and buckles. The leather shows expected age stiffness and light surface cracking/crazing. The brass/iron hardware shows minor oxidation. Stitching is strong and intact with no separation. Leather has not been damaged through use of modern conditioners which initially soften the leather, but can accelerate rot and blooming. Steel buckles have some oxidation. The top buckle has light oxidation while the bottom has slighly heavier oxidation. Brass rivets show mild oxidation while brass reinforcement piece displays very light oxidation. Markings: Features a light but visible Rock Island Arsenal manufacturer stamp. The tip of the strap retains a crisp government sub-inspector serif-font stamp that appears to read \"C.L.\". There appears to be another letter preceding the \"C\", but it is illegible. Perfect addition to an advanced military leather or frontier cavalry collection. Please see photos for exact condition details. Care:Leather can be cleaned using mild soap and water. Slathering the leather in modern conditioners is not recommended. These products are designed to keep modern leather in good condition. These products lubricate the fibers in the leather, which can seem to be helpful, but they contain substances that can cause damage to antique leather products (white blooming and complete breakage of any weakened areas). The best care for these items is preservation. I can combine shipping on items. Just add what you want to your cart, then check-out when you\'re ready.
